What does '' Aatish '' stand for? It’s a very different name, dark. Who came up with it and how? Any reason behind this name?
Hassan: As Yasir mentioned “Aatish” Stands for Fire in various languages and I was never a part of a band when it came into being. Yasir was jamming with some other guys and offered me to join Aatish and so I did. About the name “Aatish” this is funny Yasir had some cricket team in Saudia Arabia which he named Aatish and then that team turned out to be a band in Dubai wow…Interesting.

What is your role in the band, respectively?
Hassan: Lead Vocalist & Rhythm Guitars.

Do you have any musical background or education? How did you start making music?
Hassan: Yea I have learnt guitar from Dubai and about my vocals its GOD gifted as my dad has an amazing voice and so its passed on to me. I used to have band called “Chaos” in which we never did anything except fighting. We were like I’ll do this part nahi I’ll do this part and so that band was never heard. One day I was just playing drums at a studio in Dubai where yasir and couple of his mates came to jam, They wanted someone to play drums for his songs and I just started messing up with the drum set. He actually liked it and asked me to join Aatish, This is how my music life started I have been singing and playing guitars for other bands but Aatish was the first and serious task for me.

Explain the type of music you make. On what grounds is it different from what other people are doing now days?
Hassan: Tell you the truth…My genre is rock…I listen to rock music and try to make something different out of it. Talking about Aatish we are more into Pop/Rock, we have melodious songs like “Ankhein” and then we have “Sawan” which is more of jumpy song.

Do you own any musical instruments? How any instrument playing knowledge? What musical instruments do you own and use in making music?
Hassan: I use Fender Stratocaster 6 string Electric Guitar, Yamaha Acoustic Guitar F310 , Behringer V-amp and Shure Microphones.

Have you performed live? What are your feelings, before and after the show?
Hassan: I have played live with many other bands but with Aatish I have done about 9 gigs in Dubai in a period of 2 months and we have also done couple of College and School events. My feelings before every gig is that is stay cool and cracks loads of jokes, as I am the funniest guys of the band so I don’t take tension I just think that our performance is like one of our Jam Session it helps me keep focused and calm.

Who or what inspires you to make music? Who / what have been your basic inspirations?
Hassan:
Frankly Speaking.. If I talk about playing guitar then Salman Ahmed from Junoon have been my true inspiration I holded my guitar when I saw him performing first time at 1992. And from singing point of view Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan that’s it.

Tell us about your musical taste? What type of music do you listen to and what type of music you don’t?
Hassan: I listen to everything only if it has any sense. Mostly I listen to rock and I spend half my day listen Pakistani Music. I have different songs for different moods. When I feel good I’ll put on Junoon , When I am upset I’ll put on Ahmed Jahanzeb or Atif Aslam. But music in my opinion is that which gives you and you’re soul a relief and voice of Atif Aslam and Ahmed Jahanzeb has been playing a vital role nowadays for me.

How many songs have you recorded as yet [albums]? What about videos?
Hassan: We have released one song called “Ankhein” and currently we all are busy in our studies. As soon as we get free we are heading to studios in Pakistan and Dubai to record a couple of other tracks to. The songs are ready and sound good to me as Yasir made me heard that. I’m excited to come back to Dubai from USA and add my vocals in it. By December we have planned to shoot a video but the song we haven’t decided yet.

In your point of view how important are the following respectively:
a - Lyrics
b - Sound
c - Recording

Hassan: Lyrics: In my opinion lyrics nowadays don’t play a major role if we are targeting teenagers because songs like Channo & Pappu Yaar and all are major hits but if you look at the lyrics they don’t make any sense. I believe the Melody of the song has to be rated on top while making a song. People often don’t know the lyrics but they do recognize songs like Pappu Yaar and Channo just because of their melody .If your melody is good then adding lyrics is not a big deal. About sound and recording that come after melody. The recording has to be professional when your putting an album to the market. But what’s the use of recording songs which have no melody in it. So I would end by saying Melody Is The Soul For A Song.

Music has evolved a lot since the past 5 to 6 years? What would you say about this?
Hassan: Man past 5 to 6 years no I don’t agree to that. The Pakistani music scene has changed in just a matter of 3 to 4 years. And even at times we are shocked that from where does all these Bands and Singer comes from. Everyday you turn your TV on you’ll find a new singer or a band, it’s just amazing this show how much talent is in Pakistan all we need to do is to get it out.

Any plans to take music as a proper 24 / 7 profession?
Hassan: It all depends on how the life treats me. If I get good support from everyone then I’ll definitely make it my profession but on the other hand I would be living a decent life too. Because music won’t save you every time, once people might like you and then they might not. If we talk about the current situation then I don’t think so I would make Music my career it’s just my hobby to sing and to create music.

How has being a part of music changed or influenced your life?
Hassan: I stay happy every time makes people laugh and ofc I am busier then before now L which is not good hahaha.

Being based in another country, how do you feel about Pakistani music? All the upcoming bands and solo artists, the underground scene?
Hassan: Yaar (yehi to ghum hai),That we are not in Pakistan but still our heart and our soul Is Pakistani…I love my country and I don’t listen to any other music until I’m forced to then my Pakistani Music. We have artist like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan,Abida Parveen and Junoon .In new bands we have Jal, EP & Atif Aslam now you tell who want to listen to other if we have such great people in Pakistan .I’m proud to be from Pakistan where an artist is born everyday.

Which Pakistani musicians do you like to listen to?
Hassan: My list goes on and on but the musicians I listen to very often are Mekaal Hasan, Junoon, Faraz Anwar ,Atif Aslam and EP.

What are the requirements of a successful and complete band?
Hassan: Time…Patience, Trust on other band members, Good instruments, a non disturbing place to jam I mean where you don’t disturb others hahaha and good knowledge of Music.

Sound is another important aspect of the song. A High-quality is heard very often compared to low-quality sound.
