Family background?
My father Shafqat Hussain was a successful and notable personality in his own life time and in his own right. He was a first class cricketer. He went to become a star. He worked in more than thirty films and produced two of his own. My two brothers Waqar Ali and Lucky Ali are both singer and composers. Most of my work was being written and composed by Waqar for last 10-years. Waqar has also released three albums of his own. Lucky Ali my youngest brother is also helping me with arranging for my songs. A graphic designer by profession, Lucky recently introduced his first album as an independent singer.

Your major performances.
In 1994 Nigar Awards for 'Best Playback', 2000 Nigar Awards for 'Best Singing'. For Aik Aur Love Story, 'Best Singer Award'. I also received National Award for 'Best Singer', selected as a nominee for Zee Sangeet Award, India and the co-nominees were Shankar Mahadeve, Hari Haran and Jagjeet Singh for 'Best Vocal Performance".

What motivated you to choose art as a career? Any source of inspiration?
I think I knew that I am a singer. I like to listen to classical music, specially Ustad Baray Ali Khan Sahab.

Did you take proper training for it or you call someone being your academy?
I learned by listening to senior artistes. My uncle help me a lot.

What do you call yourself, Trend Setter or Trend follower?
I am a Trend Setter. I have never been a Trend follower.

Do you enjoy your field? How do you feel as an artist?
Very Much. Great.

Are you satisfied with what you have done uptil now?
Yes sure. Whatever I have done is by the grace of Allah.

Why do you act, direct & produce and write scripts in your movies or you like to do one-man show?
Well, I worked in a film " Love Letter" that was my first acting experience. But my first movie "Aik aur love story" was a one-man show in which most work including behind the scenes were also done by me. Infact it was my first experience.

In which rooms of music do you like to work? Classical, Semi Classical or Pop?
Mostly Pop. I started my pop career in 1984. I want to make my music an easy listening but technically strong.

Why the singers like to perform in India?
Because of same culture.

What kind of response did you get in India?
I had never performed in India for Pop. It was long before in 1979 or 80 when I did solo concert for semi Classical music. I was a teenager then and that was a good experience.

Any offer for background music/singing from Bollywood?
As such not good to be accepted. I visited India only for my video shoots

Why there is a long break between videos, just like there was before Cinderella?
I want to give good quality music always that's why there is always a gap.

"Cinderella's" music is similar to the Spanish. Is it because of your inspiration or something else?
I composed it on Harmonium and gave the similar Spanish touch on guitar.

Sarwar Masuri directed the video of Cinderella but mostly I work on my own.

Whose lyrics you like most?
Gulzar. I like to work with Gulzar but currently I work with my own. I give my concept to my songs.

How many albums have been released?
More than 20 albums. " Babia 93", "Geet Ghazal", "Goldies not Oldies", "Chief Saab", "Moody"," Aik aur love story", "Cinderella". and many more.

Which of your album get the most popularity?
"Babia 93" and "Chief Saab".

If you weren't the artist, what would you have been ?
May be cricketer but at the teenage I started learning music.

Your own favorite performance/s.
I am still trying to give.

What are your leisure time activities?
Nothing much. I study geography and history.

Your future aims / dreams.
Directing and writing movies that should be known internationally. I want to establish "Music Research Center" and "Scientific Music Academy".

All over the world.

Like other showbiz people, how much your family life is affected by your singing & working hours?
Not much. I don't think so. I am a non-social man. I have my routine. I give most of my time to my family.

Would you like any one from your family to join showbiz ?
I give training to my child but I have always try to give disciplined training.

Was your marriage love or arranged?
Arranged. I got married at the age of 19 with my cousin.

Cool, may be moody. Disciplined.

What would you say to newcomers who want to enter the field?
All those newcomers who come to me I give them brief lecutre. I must say to those who are devoted why don't they do.
