Naveed Rana Naveed Rana a personality having attractive looks, intelligence and a determination to work hard is making his way fast in the world of showbiz. It is always a pleasure to meet a lively person, and here is an interview with the star for 'Tview' where he talks about as how he perceives life in general.
Fame is not new to him. In fact, the reason behind his departure from his well-established business to showbiz was solely for the contentment of his soul. Fortunately having born in an educated family, he had the liberty to pursue any career that he would have chosen.
He took his time to decide what suited the creative fibres in him the best and it didn't take long for him to learn that the only place for him on earth was the stardom. Therefore, without wasting any time, he landed into it where fame, the all time slave of 'Rana's Family' was waiting for him.
Follows the exclusive interview where Naveed explains about the innings and the experiences he has gained so far on the idiot box:You are comparatively new to the acting pitch, so is there anybody you draw your inspirations from? It's simply a lie, if, one says that there was no inspiration in his life that helped him achieve anything. At home, it comes from our parents to an extent; then at school it's the teacher who stands with us. So, there isn't a phase in our lives when we are drawing inspiration from any body at all. Similarly, there are inspirations in showbiz as well. They might come from an artist who has previously performed so close to reality or they might even come from very ordinary people around us whom we are observing all the time unknowingly. Now, of course, all these people have their own shortcomings, but they have something in them that sparks out and becomes a torch for others. It's like osmosis process, where you filter out the best from someone's character and try to portray them in your own. With any offer, how do you conceive your role? First of all I go through my character then I relate it to the story that where exactly it is placed in the story and what impact it is bound to create. Then I start working on it. I compare notes with my director and my co-stars and strive to rehearse with different angles and styles in order to choose the best. The most powerful character of your career so far...? There are many but the one I did in 'Titliyaan' is perhaps the most diversified character I have ever performed. I enjoyed my role in 'Dark Room' too. It was quite difficult with a lot of scope for acting. Public response has really encouraged me as they have thoroughly enjoyed watching both of them.Whom did you enjoy working with? I guess Mohsin Talat, as a director is a wonderful person in this aspect. The best thing about him is his habit of giving a free hand to the artists working with him. He thoroughly understands that this gives artists the opportunity to express more openly and the result that eventually comes out impresses many. I guess that smooth should be the wavelength between a director and his team. Then he also sees to it that he must discuss the story and the characters with them so that the deficiencies, if there are any, may be eliminated in time. How would you like to cultivate your screen image? I'm grateful to God that I have already cultivated a good repute. I have my own identity to be identified with. Right from the beginning of my career, I have worked with TV legends like Ali Rizvi, Sultana Siddiqui, and Asif Danawala. They have cast me in a variety of roles, therefore, I have not appeared as an artist reserved for any specific character. Secondly, I myself don't believe that an artist should have a fixed image as far as he calls himself an actor. This is the only way to do justice to one's profession. How do you avoid being typecast? I have always made sure that whatever I choose to perform should be different from the work I have already done. That's may be one of the reason why I listen to the whole script before accepting any role. If you have a look at my work, you will see that each role is convincingly different from other. In 'Jayain Kahan Armaan' my role is that of a multi-billionaire, chain drinker who also keeps a mistress. In 'Dard Kay Rishtay', I played the role of a businessman, whereas in 'Dark Room', I've played the role of an obsessed lover. In 'Sangam', I appeared in a comic role of a happy go lucky person; in 'Titliyaan', I'm a wicked husband who keeps lying to his wife that he loves her while dating other girls and cheating on her in other ways as well. How is the public response to the character you are doing in 'Titliyaan'? Basically, the storyline of 'Titiyaan' follows notes. When Mohsin Talat joined it as director, he brought some changes in my character, which came as a relief for the viewers. Contrary to the story itself, my character is now comparatively light with a comic touch. These improvements were highly welcomed by the viewers. What are the prerequisites for a good play? Look! It's teamwork. If the storyline is weak, the director or artists are helpless about it. Director is the captain of the ship. If we artists are able to do even the smallest fraction of a percent of how he has conceived the project, then everything workout. What are you favourite pastimes? I basically like soft music. It relaxes me, and I like to play games on a play station specially cricket. How about playing an inning on the Lollywood turf? I have been offered a number of films, but the quality of films has never inspired me so, I decided to come to Karachi and chose to take off from TV. I seriously believe that it's a training institute to groom the talent we have. I'll definitely think about doing a film if the project is good in totality that is a good story, producer, director and the cast. Only then, I will go for it.Does your wife support you in your career?
She is my biggest strength who has always been with me through all thick and thin of life.
She appreciates my work, but at the same time, she brutally criticizes me.
She also helps me in selection of my wardrobe, commenting on what suits me. I mean she is a factor that brings me internal peace and stability.
