Moammer Rana

Every rise has its fall, they say. Moammer Rana knows that pretty well, having tasted super stardom early in his career with three block busters including Deewane Tere Pyar Ke, Choorian and Nikki Jai Haan it seemed that he had the proverbial success on the platter – but sadly enough he faced the fall soon enough.

There were even times when he was written off and with Shan back as the only sole hero on the front, Momi was facing a lot of problems. Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa gave Momi the break that he was waiting since his last success. This film has again brought Momi back into business and now he is standing above Shan in every term.

Having given a hatrick of successes initially, his list of flops is also unending, including Jisay Da Mola, Zor, Mohlat, Chupke Chupke, Pal Do Pal, Mehndi Wale Hath, Kon Bane Ga Crore Pati and even much hyped but delayed Syed Noor film Dil Deewana Hai and Shehzad Rafique’s Rukhsati. But today having tasted success in the form of YDAKH he is darling of all the mainstream directors and producers and that is why his mobile hasn’t stopped ringing since the time he has given such a hit.

That is the very reason that Momi is among the main lead of some good movies that are getting released soon. As all the directors are busy shooting their movies to get them released, Momi is busy like hell, shooting for a film at a time and dubbing the other film on the same time. caught Momi up for an exclusive interview in between all this hustle and bustle.

Things have at last been gone well for you recently, have they?
Well, a true hero is one who has the capacity to rise after he falls. That is how I have always wanted to be. Life is wonderful. It always teaches you new things. People ask me whether I was nervous about the release of YDAKH (Yeh Dil Aap Ka Hua) and I tell that the whole team was nervous but very much confident about the product that we were making.

That is why --- I feel good about it. But it made me realize a lot of things. All the papers and television programs praised me for my performance in YDAKH. For the audience to still have faith in me is quite amazing.

So you do see a glimmer of hope?
Actually I don't look at it that way. Every major star has had a string of flops. That happens in every career. What is the fun of running without faltering? When you stumble, you enjoy the run more.

Most of your post-debut films have flopped. Do you think you need to rethink the way you choose films?
I wouldn't say that. A film with Syed Noor can never be a bad choice. He signed me after Deewane Tere Pyar Ke was hit and we were expecting a much better result for Dil Deewane Hai but it turned out bad. Only someone stupid would refuse an offer from these directors at the threshold of his career. Shehzad Rafique’s Rukhsati had a fantastic subject, but it faced problems and suffered mainly because of it.

I chose films keeping in view the money that is a must if you want to survive. I can’t wait for good offers to stroll up for you. I am an actor and I have no other business other than that, so I need myself to get settled down and keep my kitchen running. And I don’t think that there is something bad in it.

Why we are not coming out of this Gujjar culture and movies that are been based on them?
Well, it is not the fault of one person, the whole machinery has to be changed, and the minds of people have to be changed, as people like this stuff so we are making these films. Actually, we make films for the masses and not for the classes. It is upon the viewers who like to see these kinds of movies. If they don’t want to see such movies, our producers will not make such movies and thus we will not be acting in them.

So, then how is Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa a mega hit if people like the Gujjar stuff movies, there was no violence in that?
Yes, that is what we can’t get sometime, people like such movies that I or even most of the directors don’t want to work in and sometimes we expect from a movie and people reject it completely.

But the success of YDAKH was more than my expectations; we were expecting a success but never like such. If you like to take my personal comment over the Gujjar movies, I myself want to get out of this stuff but I can’t as I have to stay in industry for long and I have no other profession so I have to accept these movies to earn money and to stay in movies.

But if are not satisfied with your work and not comfortable working in them, then you must look at the people who are doing considerable good work like Samina Peerzada and Shehzad gul.
You see, after the great success of Inteha, Humayun and Zeeshan both didn’t get much movies and that is why I have to accept all movies that provide me good money. I want to stay in the industry.

So, how could we be able to have some good change in the industry?
I am trying to take some good steps and that is why I am going to direct an Urdu movie that is titled Yeh Jeena Kiya Jeena and I can assure you that it will be a very different and trend setter movie. I have decided to direct the movie myself in order to make quality movies, at the very moment film industry need a lot of good themes and stories to work on. I will try to present some new ideas and characters in my movies.

How do you feel about directing a film?
Well, acting has been a passion for me but I never acted in front of the camera rather I have been learning camera techniques and direction. I have worked with so many big directors and I have learned a lot from all of them. As far as the film is concerned, I have given my central idea while Tanveer Kazmi has penned it. The lead cast includes Saud, Izhar Kazi and Javed Sheikh, while the female cast is yet to be finalized.

What do you have to say about Fire?
Working with Asif Ali Pota is like a dream coming true, he is a very good writer and I chose the film wholeheartedly because of the very fact that it had a very good script at least a change from the other flicks that I am working on. If we fail this time I have to re-learn the rules of success.
