Jimmy Khan
Lahore based, Jimmy is a young artist in his early twenties. He recently released his first single Pehla Pyar which turned out to be quite popular among the younger lot. In a span of just over 20 days, the song was dubbed a hot radio favourite with the video having received over 13,000 views on YouTube alone and an additional 10,000+ views on his official Facebook fanpage. Excerpts:
When and how did you start playing music? I started with a two string Spanish guitar (the remaining strings had rusted over a few years). I composed my first riff on the same guitar on my roof top.
What inspired you to be a musician? The fact that at a relatively young age I understood what a melody is. Being able to sing a melody on some form of rhythm made me realise how much I enjoy it.
What was the first song you ever composed? The first song I composed was titled Years. At the time I composed this song, months felt like years and this song specifically reflected feelings of growing up in a span of a few months.
What is your inspiration? Your favorite musicians and singers? Inspiration comes from the air, trees, roads and army checkposts in my beautiful city Lahore! They are so many musicians and singers but if I were to take a few names, I would include Caleb Followill, Johnny Cash, Shehzad Noor, Chris Isaak, Kailash Kher, Bruce Springsteen, John Mayer, Jack Johnson, BB. King…the list never ends!
What are your activities/hobbies besides music? Talking a lot of rubbish, sleeping, swimming, watching movies, football and tennis.
What are the biggest challenges for musicians in Pakistan these days? Entering into an industry which does not have any defined organisational structure. I think there aren't enough live shows happening due to security concerns.
