Aamir Saleem As a rolling stone he could gather no moss until finally "Musafir" took off and in turn got known as "Ajnabi", the friendly stranger. When "Musafir" met "Ajnabi" there was bound to be company followed by "Mohabbat". And now, there is this new album"Khawab"!
Aamir Saleem has been in the pop music for more than a decade an during that period he has been able to produce one of the most soul stirring songs in the local music. He set his foot in the pop music with Taroon Bhari Ratein that got noticed immediately. This led him to release his first album, Musafir. His second album Ajnabi that is till date his best, gave him the fame and recognition that he was waiting for.
Most of the songs from Ajnabi got famous because of their touchy lyrics and his sensuous vocals. Hamsafar, his third album also kept him on the similar pace and he matured himself in that album. Mohabbat, his last album was quite different in the sense that in this album he tried to come up with something different. The lyrics were gay and his voice a bit funky. And now recently he has released Khwaab that takes the similar journey on the road of love.
One of the most amazing things about Aamir Saleem are the lyrics in his songs. While, the other singers emphasize mostly on music, he emphasizes mostly on lyrics rather than anything else. So, even if you can't find his songs impressive, his lyrics would catch your attention.
The album kicks off with Kagzoon Pay, a fast track with mesmerizing lyrics. Dholna, a romantic track with good lyrics, follows it. Vichoray, another track in line is a Punjabi one and is catchy too. The vocals matches up with the music and provide a beautiful combination. Roag is a Sufi number that has become a tradition in albums these days. The background vocals create a Qawali atmosphere.
These tracks are just meant to be fillers. Majbori the last track of side A is quite catchy, though the tune has been inspired from his previous albums but lyrics are good and impressive. After Abrar he is another one to include English words in songs which in this particular case creates a good atmosphere and it is one of those songs that can be listened again and again.
Khwaab, the title song of the album contains the element for which Aamir is famous. Soul stirring slow rhythm creates a desire to listen to the song again and again. It is certainly one of the most beautiful songs of this album. The starting tune is quite catchy and forces you to listen to it fully. Sawan is one of the most beautiful tracks of this album. There is a touch of his yesteryears style in this song. The beat and music both are very good. A slow track that has been sung on guitar and the lyrics once again are quite catchy. Kal Tum Se continues the journey of romantic tracks alive.
It is again an enchanting number though at times the tune seems to be inspired from famous Indian songs. The next song, Rani a duet with a female song is a beautiful one. This track is different from the rest as it is a bit fast and is best suited for the Lollywood movies. Drinking to Die, the last song of this album is a funky one. Though not that catchy but this one is different from the rest. With a little more effort Aamir could have made this track the best among the rest.
All in all, the album is above average. With the passage of time, Aamir has matured a lot both in his vocals as well as music. It is time that he gives more emphasis on his music rather than anything else.
Though, in this album Aamir has experimented a lot of things, some are good while some are quite bad. We hope that next time Aamir does not goes around experimenting with his voice and comes up with something even better.
