Wateli Dal
Ingredients:
Bengal gram, split 225 gms.
Green chilies 6 nos.
Cumin seeds 1½ tsp.
Turmeric powder ½ tsp.
Chili powder ½ tsp.
Salt To taste.
For the tempering
Mustard seeds ½ tsp.
Asafoetida ½ tsp.
Coriander, chopped ½ cup
Oil 3 tbsps.

Method:

  • Soak the dal overnight in water and in the morning grind it along with the 3 green chilies,¾ tsp.cumin seeds, salt and a little water.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add the mustard seeds and when they start crackling, add the Asafoetida, cumin seeds and green chilies.
  • Next add the gram mixture, turmeric and chili powder with 1 cup water.
  • Cover and cook over a low flame.
  • Once all the water has evaporated and the gram becomes soft remove and serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
