A musical movie, with chartbuster songs like 'Chookar mere dil ko", "tere jaisa yaar kahan" and "Sara Zamana". Kishen(Amitabh Bachchan) & Bishen(Amjad Khan are childhood friends, grow at different places. Kishen, an illiterate guy is fond of music and has a beautiful voice, lives in a village. He goes to the city on the request of his beloved friend Amjad Khan . He learns everything to become a complete singer and gets attracted towards his teacher Neetu Singh.

Bishen arranges a Mega show in a stadium where he launches Kishen as a singer. He is overwhelmingly appreciated by the audience. Besides all this there are some wicked persons like Kader Khan & Ranjeet who harasse Bishen to go insane. After this Kishen brings his friend to normalcy and destroys the villains.  Amitabh Bachchan in a comic shade entertains a lot. The scenes like 'Kachha Papad Pakka Papad' are great. Bachchan's "Light" costume in the song "Saara zamana" became very popular.
