Yahaan
Director: Shoojit Sircar Starring: Jimmy Shergill, Minissha Lamba
Music Director: Shantanu Moitra
Mumbai : After a long gap, there's a film with a storyline that's based in
Kashmir, popularly called the "Switzerland of the East." Yahaan, debut film of
ad filmmaker turned director Soorjit Sarcar, is set in violence-ridden Kashmir,
and is the story of Adaa, a Kashmiri girl, who falls in love with an Indian army
captain, Aman. Their love blooms despite apparent disapproval from all quarters.
On a rainy evening, the music launch of Yahaan was held at an appropriate venue
Rain Bar and Eatery in the southern city of Mumbai. In keeping with the subject
of the movie the theme of the evening was `Kashmir`.
Veteran Bollywood lyricist Gulzar who recently launched the music of this film
said he tried to portray Kashmir through the songs and music in the film. "I
have tried to ensure that songs and music carries all the fragrance of the plot
of the story. The surroundings, the background on which the story evolves should
be an integral part of the songs and music. So I have used words and names of
places of Kashmir. The touch of the folk, rituals of that area is there," said
Gulzar. One of the most prolific film makers in the country, Sircar has over 200
commercial and music video behind him. His directorial debut film Yahaan with
Jimmy Shergill is due for release in July 2005.
