Based on the real-life story of a transvestite who became a neta, this one is surprisingly a non C-grade film. Generally, Bollywood has always treated eunuchs with disdain, as loud and vulgar characters who are ready to rip you off all respectability.
Kudos to Ashutosh Rana who reinterprets the experience and lends it shades of humanism, decency and dignity as he moves from the fringes of Mumbai society to the centre of Madhya Pradesh politics. His attempts to transform societal scorn into respect and more importantly, popular votes -- are low-key, well-scripted and do manage to drive home the importance of fringe folks in our lives.
The only problem is the limited interest. How many people would actually want to go out and watch a film based on a eunuch. Even Darmiyan didn't find its audience despite some good acting and sensitive handling.
