An expert thief, Raja (Rajesh Khanna) who always perfectly stole valuables
but sometimes got caught and was prisoned. One day, due to a chase between him
and the cops when he escaped, he fled to a someone's wedding. Just to hide from
the cops he married the bride, a girl named Nirmala (Sharmila Tagore). After
marriage Raja told his spouse that he had nothing to do with her and claimed to
disown her. That same night the real groom of Nirmala has been found dead.
Nirmala is kicked out of the groom's house by the groom's mom. Fate played
Nirmala turned her into Rani who is basically like the Chandermukhi of "Devdas"
until Rani/Nirmala meets Raja, they fall in love with each other, and decide to
refrain from the sins/crimes they do for their living but fate neglects and
rejects them due to their previous sinful incidents.
