for never before insights about the making of his supe rhit film Nikaah in which
B.R. Chopra talks about.. How he managed to skirt around controversy which would
have naturally followed this film, given its subject. How he discovered Salma
Agha, a total newcomer to the film industry, then trained and launched her as
the heroine of Nikaah. How Salma's voice was first rejected by the music
director, Ravi and how B.R Chopra convinced him to vary the composition and
scale of the film's music to suit her voice Neelofar (Salma Agha) and
Haider (Raj Babbar) a budding poet, are fellow students at University. Unknown
to Haider, Neelofar is in love with her cousin Waseem (Deepak Parashar). When
Haiders advances are rejected he withdraws and decides to forget his college
romance. After a grand Nikaah (Marriage) Neelofar and Waseem's marital life hits
a rough patch. While Neelofar awaits her husband in loneliness, in search for
the home she once dreamt of, Waseem is busy trying to build his career as an
architect.
When Waseem fails to turn up for their first wedding anniversary party, Neelofar
confronts Waseem - only to be humiliated by him when in the heat of the moment,
he divorces her. In an attempt to rebuild her life as a writer, Neelofar comes
accross Haider, who is now an Editor and publishes Neelofars work. Haider takes
the role of a friend, philosopher and guide - but still nurses a secret desire
to have a future together - Neelofar starts reciprocating Haider's feelings. In
the meantime, Waseem is repenting his actions and tries to meet and convince
Neelofar to re-marry him. Nikaah is a story of Waseem's unintentional
selfishness as a man and a husband. It is a story of Haider's selfless love for
Neelofar.It is a story of Neelofar - A women torn between the past and present.
