Old commitments call across distances of not only places but also time and
birth even, “Lekin..” is such a saga. A tale of a government officer Sameer, who
takes charge of the old fort and palace of Jasor, last ruled by one King Param
Singh. Reva meets Sameer in the train in a mysterious way and keeps meeting and
disappearing, during his stay in Jasor. The mysterious appearance and
disappearance not only shakes Sameer but gives him an unknown inner motivation
to find out the truth behind Reva, his own self and the reason he is connected
with this story. As the story is revealed by Reva herself, she is a spirit
stranded in a period of time, attempting to cross the desert to meet her long
lost sister Tara. She had narrowly escaped the clutches of indulgent King Param
Singh, having spent eight years in his captivity. Her mentor Ustad Miraj Ali
gives an oath of the Holy Quran to one of his acquaintance Mehru, who helps Reva
cross the desert. But in the attempt, both are killed in the sandstorm. As
events unfold, Sameer is the rebirth of Mehru who ends up fulfilling his
commitment to help Reva’s spirit not only cross the desert but also the period
of time in which she is stranded. A gripping story, which is more like a
folktale woven in poetry “lekin” rekindles all up.
