T-Series continues to churn out one love story after another and Koi Mere Dil
Mein Hai seems like the fiftieth this year alone! Composers Nikhil-Vinay are
once again at the helm for the soundtrack which provides seven tracks of varying
appeal.
Nikhil-Vinay continue to keep the Laxmikant-Pyarelal flag flying with the
endearing title track, "Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai". This song gets the album off to
a good start with it´s infectious melody and vibrant arrangements. Kumar Sanu
and Anuradha Paudwal also help lift the song with some sweet renditions.
Definitely a repeat candidate for those that appreciate a slight nostalgic
touch.
Unfortunately, after the promising start, the album proceeds to offer what can
only be described as ´factory production line´ music! "Na Dil Ko Lagate Na
Hairan Hote" is a predictable ´filmi sad song´ with banal lyrics and a
forgettable tune. Anuradha and Udit Narayan sing competently but fail to
resurrect this casualty of a song.
Ditto for the duo´s more upbeat number, "Mujhse Dosti Karoge", which is bland
beyond belief! Even Udit and Anuradha sound bored singing the track. Udit´s
solo, "Koi To Tere Chand Se", is just as unstimulating, sounding like a reject
from a Shahrukh/Yashraj film.
Nikhil-Vinay then wander into Himesh Reshammiya territory with "Shararati
Shararati". They even coax Shaan into singing it, an obvious ploy to create
another "Nikamma", but the number just falls flat. The ´skip´ button on the CD
player was created for songs such as this.
Then there is an embarrassing minute and a half of music titled, "Car Wash
Theme", which has Hema Sardesai mouthing inanities in English and Hindi.
Terribly Tacky!
Thankfully, there is another high note on this album and it comes in the form of
the playful, "Baahon Mein Nahin Rehna". This tantalising teaser is expertly sung
by Asha Bhosle and Adnan Sami. This song boasts of an extremely hummable tune
and good arrangements. What more can one ask for?
Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai may not be a milestone in film music but the title track
and "Baahon Mein..." are above average numbers that deserve some attention.
