Daler Mehndi Genre: World/Reggae, Film/Bollywood, India Hometown: India
Daler Mehndi first struck gold with his album 'Bolo Ta Ra Ra' in 1995. He had
met composer Jawahar Wattal, and together with the music label Magnasound,
managed to wield the trump card in the form of peppy tracks, which did
beautifully on the charts. This was followed by rapid releases in the form of
'Ho Jaayegi Balle Balle' and 'Tunak Tunak Tun'. The albums sold huge numbers all
over the country.
It was evident then that the singer had the proverbial Midas touch. He chose to
cross the line and jump into film music, and his first song for the film 'Mrityudaata',
'Na na na na na re...', was gimmicky and pacy enough to get noticed, though the
film sank. His on-screen act with Amitabh Bachchan ensured that the song was
etched in the minds of music buffs. He followed it up with 'Kudiyaan shaher
diyaan' from 'Arjun Pandit' and 'Ankh ladti hai' from 'Khauff'.
Daler then came with 'Ek Dana', yet another winner up his sleeve. The singer
will sure be remembered for his flamboyant attire, and superior music quality.
