Master Dinanath (Amitabh Bachchan) greatly loved his country, when it was
under the subjugation of Britishers, he had fought against them, he went to
jail. But after the independence, the people's love for their country seemed to
be diminishing and busy betraying it and making money out of it. Masterji tried
to stop the traitor but his own family got scattered. His wife and daughter were
kidnapped in order to bring pressure on him but no change. His wife became a
victim of leprosy. Masterji and his son settled in a slum divided in four
sections - Punjabi, Bengali, Muslim and Madrasi with a slum lord in each to lord
it over. All of them loved only their own section but nobody thought himself as
an Indian except Masterji, even his son Raju (Amitabh Bachchan) grew up totally
differently becoming an underworld character. When Masterji came to know about
Raju he handed him over to the police. While taken to court the jeep toppled
onto ditch and there was no trace of Raju. Master Dinanath's sorrow were solved
due to his honesty he found his lost wife, daughter and his son and the whole
family was united again
