Aaina
Director: Deepak Saren, Yash Chopra Starring: Amrita Singh, Juhi Chawla, Jackie Shroff
Music Director: Dilip Sen- Sameer Sen
Aaina is a fantastically well-done film that has class. The movie stars
Amrita Singh as Ruma, an actress hell bent in competing with her younger sister
Rima (Juhi Chawla).
Aaina starts off as Ruma meets a famous author named Rajiv Suxena (Jackie Shroff)
and they both fall in love. On the eve of Ruma´s wedding, she gets an offer that
she can’t refuse: the lead role in a famous director´s film. Ruma has to choose
between getting married and doing the film. She chooses to star in the film and
leaves Rajiv at the alter. Ruma´s father is quite angry (forget heartbroken)
with his older daughter and tells Rajiv to forget about Ruma and marry his
younger daughter, Rima instead. Much to Rima´s surprise, Rajiv agrees. After the
wedding, Rima and Rajiv settle down to a life of bliss and happiness in each
other’s arms. Nothing could ruin their happy life together now or could it?
Suddenly, Ruma comes back into their lives and learns of her sister’s marriage
to Rajiv. Ruma tries everything to break Rima and Rajiv up. Will she succeed?
Acting on the parts of Juhi and Jackie are good but the real shining star is
Amrita Singh. She plays the perfect stuck up Didi. If I’m not mistaken, she
pulled in a Filmfare Award for her performance as Ruma. Direction is perfect as
is the music. All the songs are spectacular. My personal favorite from the album
is "Aaina Hai Mera Chehera" sung by Asha. The song has a nice dance by Amrita
Singh also. Another favorite of mine is the immensely likeable "Yeh Raat Khush
Naseeb Hai" by Lata. Watch this movie. You will enjoy it.
