The 1980s Revisited The Makeup Edition
If there is one era that everyone definitely remembers when it comes to makeup and fashion, it most certainly is the 1980s. The 1980s brought us a whole lot of fashion and makeup trends that a lot of us never thought that we would ever see – and a lot of us also hope to never ever see again.
Leg warmers, bright neon colors, and huge hair were all a big hit those many years ago, which is why it is so fun to hit the town in 1980s attire and stun the people on the streets. If you and your ladies are planning a fun 1980s themed night out on the town but you don’t quite remember how you applied that bright blush and glaring eyeshadow, you’re in luck – because we do.
The 1980s Eye Makeup
Most women all have vivid memories of the eye makeup of the 1980s – it was bold, it was bright, and it was what some would easily call "overdone". 1980s eye makeup really pushed eye makeup to the extreme by introducing color fads such as bright blues, neon pinks, and even bright white eye shadows that were never seen before.
1980s overdone eye makeup
To reclaim that 1980s look, take a bright white eyeshadow and cover your entire lid with it, right up to your eyebrow. Then, take a bright color such as a neon blue, pink or yellow, and sweep it onto your eyelid and right up to the crease of your eye. Blend it in. Apply a thick black eyeliner to both your upper and lower lash line, and finish off with a bright blue mascara or several coats of black mascara.
Tip: You can also try using an eyeliner in either teal or blue too to really get that 1980s look.
The 1980s Lips
In the 1980s, the lips were just as bright as the eyes. Bold fuchsias, reds, hot pinks and purples were all the rage, and the lips had to shine as if they were glass.
To get the 1980s lips, all you have to do is seek out a bright, bold lipstick color. If you find one that has glitter in it, that’s even better! You don’t have to just focus on the red, purple and pink tones either – the 1980s definitely saw a lot of strange colors, such as a blue and orange lipstick. Add a layer of sparkling lip gloss overtop of your lipstick and you’re lips will resemble those of a 1980s goddess.
The 1980s Cheeks
If you haven’t gotten the idea of the 1980s makeup yet, it’s all about being bold and "out there". This means that your blush will be just a loud as the eyes and the lips.
Start off by finding a bright, rich color such as a hot pink for the lighter skin tones, or a dark red for the darker skin tones. Make sure that you really pile it on – subtly is definitely Not what you’re going for here. Contour your cheek bones with each brush stroke too, so don’t stick with just the apple of your cheek as many of us do today.
