Homemade Facials

The Face
Skin treated to proper care is firm but elastic, positively glowing with health. This balanced condition is maintained by meticulous cleansing and a flexible skin care routine which meets every challenge from the signs of passing years to the rigors of wind and weather.

This is the way to proceed:
1. First, cleanse your face.
2. Then steam your face for five minutes.
3. Close your eyes and hold your face as close to the steam as you can without discomfort.
4. If skin is oily, cleanse your face again. You may skip this step if your skin is dry or sensitive.
5. Now you are ready to apply a face mask.

Home Made Facials
A piece of muslin or gauze is sometimes useful in helping to keep a face mask in place, especially if the consistency is inclined to be slippery. Simply cut out 'eyes' and a 'mouth' and place over the face before carefully applying the mask.

Eggs make masks to suit all skin types. An egg white whipped and patted on the skin, will tighten and tone. The whole egg, beaten, has softening properties as well. For combination skins make up two masks. Apply 2 tbsp beaten egg white and ½ x 5 ml (1/2 tea spoon) lemon juice to the oily patches, rubbing it in slightly. Then mix 5 ml (1 tea spoon) gelatin with 15 ml (1 tbsp) water to make a paste and smooth in to the dry areas. Leave for 30 minutes, and then rinse both away with warm water followed by cold. Blot dry

A carrot mask does wonders in helping to clear a blemished complexion. Uses a small raw carrot mashed to a smooth paste or cook one in a little water and liquidize or mash. Pat the mask all over the blemished areas and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Then remove the mask, rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

Banana is one of the best ingredients for an anti-wrinkle treatment. Mash down two or three slices, diluting the consistency, if you like, with 5 ml (1 tea spoon) or so of milk. Apply all over face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Then pat dry.

Grape juice makes an excellent cleanser for any skin type. Simply split one or two large grapes, remove pips and rub the flesh over face and neck. Rinse off with cool water.

For skin that is going through an oily phase, try a brewer's yeast mask. Mix 5 ml (1 tea spoon) brewer's yeast with enough natural yoghurt to make a loose, thin mixture. Pat this thoroughly into all the oily areas and allow it to dry on the skin. After 15 - 20 minutes, rinse off with warm water, then cool and blot dry.

Tomatoes cut in half and rubbed over the face for toning and whitening the skin.

For tired-looking or sluggish skin, a cucumber facial is ideal. Take 115 ml (1/2 cupful) of cucumber juice, 2 x 5 ml (2 tea spoon) powdered milk and an egg white. Mix to a smooth paste and apply to face and neck. Allow to dry for up to 30 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Then splash on cool water and blot dry.

Bric A Brac Of Beauty Tips
Dark circles: Been partying too much lately? Have that tired-smoky look even after you have washed off your make up? An easy way to get rid of those unattractive dark circles is by treating your eyes with a cold compress. Application of a cold wet cloth on your eyes helps constrict blood Vessels and whitens the tissue. The cloth should be kept on your eyes for at Least ten minutes or longer if the darkness is more noticeable.

Excessively oily skin:
If your face can soak up a tissue even during those extremely dry winter months, you have extremely oily skin. Start washing your face with hot water as it dissolves the oil in the skin more effectively than luke warm or cold water, but be sure that your skin is not a combination type because constant use of hot water will cause wrinkles.

Dandruff: "It's not so much what you use, but how you use it." A great anti-dandruff shampoo is not enough to keep you hair flake-free. Leave the shampoo (preferably a tar-based shampoo) on the scalp for a full five minutes in order for it to have the desired effect.

Oily hair:
You don't want to be called "greasy head", do you? Here's an easy rinse that you can make at home to deal with oily hair- All you have to do is squeeze two sweet-limes and then mix it with 300ml of distilled water. This is an excellent way to cut the oiliness and give life and bounce to your hair.

Lively lips:
Keep your lips looking great throughout the year even in those winter months, when cracks and dried skin begins to chafe your lips. Using sand paper to remove the damaged skin on your lips (alternatively wet the corner of a towel to do the same) will free you from the embarrassment of split and bleeding lips for the rest of the season. Why use chap sticks all the time when you can take care of it once and relax the rest of the season.

Instead of using lip gloss that doesn't last long enough, rub a thick layer of petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) onto your lips and around them. This is great for winter as well because it prevents chapping and cold sores.

For Great Beauty - Pour a cup of boiling water onto a teaspoon of dried Figwort leaves and let it steep for l0 minutes then strain. Drink the tea 3 times a day. This will banish blemishes from your skin as it cleanses the blood.

To keep Cold Cream from spoiling and maintain its freshness, keep it in the refrigerator... and it's so cool.
Dry up Blemishes - by dabbing with lemon juice few times a day. It will also take the redness out of the blemished area.

Milk wash:
Make a paste out of skim milk and water, wash your face with this mixture instead of soap.
Cornbread mix spread on face, let dry and wash off with warm water and see how clean your skin looks.

How To Pluck And Shape Eyebrows -Always follow the natural shape of your brow. Begin by brushing your brows up and back. A good rule of thumb to follow so you don't lose the arch in your brows is to pluck from underneath on the outer arch and from up above on the inner part of the arch.
Face Powder- Use cornstarch. Use it in moderation or you can look too white.
Remove gum from hair with nail polish remover, then shampoo.
Mix dry oatmeal and water into a paste and spread on face. Lie down and let it dry. Wash off with warm water. Excellent facial.
Try a warm bath with feet propped up high for a relaxing twenty minutes.
One tablespoon of baby oil in very warm bath water for smooth skin. Watch the wrinkles go
