World Cupp 2011' is another Bollywood movie releasing this Friday. The movie deals with the game of Cricket, especially the worldwide controversy of match-fixing by big players plus scandalous illegal betting involved in the game. Incidentally, Ravi Kapoor plays not only a hero but also its director, story and dialogue writer. So, there is no big star involved in it. This doesn't mean there is complete absence of known cast. Actors like Prem Chopra, Suresh Oberoi and Smita Jayakar are there.
Besides, Bollywood's best cameraman Ashok Mehta has done the photography, especially the shots of the game. These are indeed worth a watch and the producer hasn't tried to play a miser in this department. And, Bobby art International has released the movie in six theaters of the National Capital Region of Delhi. There is another point to note that the film also shows how after the dance bars were closed down in Mumbai, the underworld had to focus itself on sports. What a better sports than the most popular and glamorous game of Cricket to make a fortune?
Ravi Kapoor plays Ravi Indulkar, the captain of the Cricket team. He along with his four friends - Rajpal, Hiten, Irfan and Balwinder - fix a World Cupp match held in 2007 against Pakistan. Zakir Hussain plays the character of Shobhan, a bookie. Incidentally, a press correspondent named Balakrishnan comes to now about the scandal and exposes it to the public. Thus, Prem Chopra, who is the BICI Chairman, bans captain Ravi Indulkar and his four teammates for four years from playing the game.
Ravi's girlfriend Soha played by Manisha Chetterjee also leaves him because of his ill deeds. In the meanwhile, Ravi loses his dad. The coach once again gives a chance to Ravi and his four teammates after proving their patriotism to play World Cupp 2011. Once again India faces its archrival Pakistan in final. Zakir Hussain, the king of bookies, named Shiobhan, once again tries to fix the match with the help of Ravi. This time Ravi declines his offer. As a result, Sobhan gets annoyed with Ravi for the latter's refusal, and in revenge kidnaps Ravi's girlfriend Soha who is Physiotherapist of Indian cricket team. As soon as Ravi comes to know about Soha's kidnapping he informs the Home minister who then puts an encounter specialist on the job. Ehsaan Khan playing an encounter specialist rescues Soha at the risk of his life. On the other hand, Ravi is struggling to win World Cupp 2011.
The movie's cast includes Bollywood actress Kashmira Shah who performs the role of as an item girl. Suresh Oberoi plays a Coach. The film also stars former cricket players - Saba Karim and Nikhil Chopra- who play themselves in this film as cricket commentators! Aadesh Shrivastav provides the music to the lyrics penned by Sameer. As told earlier, cinematography by Ashok Mehta is noteworthy and so also the choreography by Raju Khan. Overall, the movie is topical as the game of cricket hasn't yet come out of the scandalous match-fixing and illegal betting.
