Tanushree Datta and Udita Goswami starrer 'Rokkk' is the second movie of Delhi based Krishna Chaudhary. Earlier, he made 'Bhoot Uncle' with Jackie Shroff. It is learnt that when he conceived a plan to make an horror movie he called Rajesh Ransinghe who is well known for his popular TV horror shows.
Since Vikram Bhatt had registered 'Shaapit' in his name, the producer had to rename his movie as 'Rokkk'. The first schedule was shot in Mumbai city and the outdoor shoot in Pune. The movie was completed within 35 days. The producer has reportedly spent a huge sum on special effects to make the movie different.
In the movie, a young woman, Anushka played by Tanushree Dutta, is married to an aged man Ravi played by Sachin Khedekar , who is many years older to his youthful wife. This is Ravi's second marriage; his first wife died under mysterious circumstances.
Anushka's mother played by Nishigandha Wad doesn't approve of their marriage because her son-in-law is older. As a result, Anushka and Ravi move into a beautiful home and live happily until one day Anushka starts experiencing weird things happening. She tells about her experience to her husband Ravi, who thinks that Anushka is simply hallucinating. He shifts back to his previous house.
However, the horror seems to be chasing Anushka! So, she suspects that it is Ravi's first wife late Pooja, who is trying to frighten her. Anushka meets a healer played by Arif Zakaria to ward off the evil spirit. The healer gives her a yantra (holy instrument) to ward off the evil spirit.
Though the yantra given by the healer keeps Anushka safe, her husband and sister-in-law are murdered and she is convicted for the killing! The story in the first session doesn't seem convincing. In the post-interval things seem to look better with the spirit setting her sights on Udita.
But, it doesn't last longer and sooner than later it again touches the ebb. It can be said that the story is half baked, and the incidents look completely fake. In fact, Tanushree's re-emergence is beyond anybody's comprehension. So, the movie is weak in all respects.
Overall, the movie isn't at all convincing though it entertains or rather fools the audience through Bollywood's two pretty and bold faces of Tanushree Dutta and Udita Goswami. Though these girls look innocent in the movie, they do wield knives and do all kinds of funny things.
And, being a hybrid horror movie, one has to suffer their antics and be prepared to face horror. In spite of all the weaknesses, the cast tries to salvage the movie though in vain. The good cast is wasted.
