Like 'Yeh Mera India', 'Kisaan' is another movie released this Friday (Aug 28th) that deals with an important issue of farmers committing suicide in the Vidharb region of Maharashtra due to financial problems.

Sohail Khan, brother of actor Salman, has produced this movie directed by Puneet Sira. Though the movie has tried to raise the vital issue, it fails to go deep into the real problem. Anyway, Sohail deserves thanks for carrying the subject to the public at large.

The story is a saga of a powerful father and his two sons. It presents an honest view of the rugged life and goals of a simple farming family against the lush green agricultural lands of modern day Punjab.

It starts with a Kisaan named Dayal Singh played by our ace actor Jackie Shroff. He is a widower who's immersed in the legacy of his ancestral lands as he raises two very different sons.

One is Aman played by Arbaaz Khan who is formally educated and turns out a city based lawyer while the other son named Jigar is played by actor-turned-producer Sohail Khan.

The latter son takes up farming due to lack of financial resource and stays with his father. The story takes an exciting twist when Sohan Seth (played by Dilip Tahil) a shrewd businessman convinces many of the farmers to sell their lands for good compensation for letting him start an industrial project.

Dayal (Jackie) and his family are ready to fight with Sohan Seth in the interest of their community. Dayal raises the vital question of whether the ground under their feet is the motherland or just a piece of land.

In the meanwhile the director gives another twist to the story. When Sohan finds Dayal being the main problem in his sinister plan, he devises a master plan to break his family and diminish his influence on the villagers.

Sohan cultivates Aman (Arbaaz) and causes a rift in the family. To add glamour, the director introduces Dia Mirza playing Priya as Arbaaz's wife and Nauheed Cyrusi playing Titli as Sohail`s love interest. They hatch a plan and kill Dia, wife of Sohal. Thus, the farmers' struggle comes to a tragic end.

The director is successful in focusing on the vital national issue of some farmers committing suicide in a part of India. His treatment of few sequences is outstanding.

Jackie Shroff is on top and Sohail Khan isn't far behind in performance. Arbaaz Khan proves misfit though for the assigned role. As a whole, the movie is touching and is likely to be popular among rural areas.
