Bollywood begins the year 2010 not on a very happy note. Though there are three releases these Friday, January 1, 2010, all of them happen to be insignificant. Of them, 'Accident on Hill Road' has, however, several important features. First, the movie is based on a real-life incident.

Two, it has talented actors like Abhimanyu Singh of the Anurag Kashyap's maverick movie 'Gulal'. The actor had played a student leader in that movie and earned laurel for his fine performance. Third, the movie has a fantastic role of Celina Jaitley as the nurse who seems to lose all her humaneness in a freak situation! Fourth, the movie brings back to Bollywood a talented actor like Farooque Shaikh.

This is another matter that even Farooque had a disaster in his last 'Saas Bahu aur Sensex'. In spite of all these favorable features, the movie fails miserably in meeting the high expectations of the audience.

Let's look at the movie's story. Celina is all set for an interview with the Red Cross. She spends the evening partying with friends. But too many drinks send her into a tizzy and embroil her in an accident on Hill Road on her way back home.

Instead of taking the victim to hospital as required under the law, panicky Celina drives off into her garage, with the victim desperately seeking help. She tries to wrap up the sordid incident with the help of her boyfriend, Abhimanyu Singh. Celina's hit and run victim is a pedestrian in Farooque Shaikh. This in itself explains the gory incident and the twists in the movie ending on a bloody climax.

Farooque Shaikh faces a grim battle lying upside down. But, Celina Jaitley does nothing except screaming out and drinking. Yes, she is panicky; fearful and desperate. She is afraid that the law might take its course and she be deprived of everything - her future in London as well as her boyfriend Singh.

In spite of talented cast in the movie, its director Mahesh Nair miserably fails to impress his audience. Watch Abhimanyu Singh's drug peddling act and feel sad for lack of proper scripting. Similarly, Farooque suffers and suffers badly with no mercy coming from Celina who is again crying and doing nothing.

This doesn't happen in real life. How could she go on gulping whiskey under such circumstance? Would it be too much to say that the director fails the talented cast?
