Anu Malik Genre: Pop/World/Reggae, Film/Bollywood, India Hometown: India
Anu Malik has completed 25 years in the Hindi film industry. Not bad for a music
composer who started with a B grade film Hunterwali (1978) and literally grew to
make music in hits like Vijaypath, Border, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Virasat, Fiza,
Aks, Asoka, Filhaal, Khushi and many more (not necessarily in that order).
Anu Malik has often been accused of plagiarism – that he lives by stealing tunes
from the West. Looking at the man’s career, one must admit that perhaps he did
initially and perhaps he doesn’t now. Who can refute his original score in Asoka?
In Aks? Filhaal? In 2003, his music can be heard in films by reputed banners
including Sooraj Barjatya's Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Madhur Bhandarkar's Aan
and J P Dutta's LoC. In short, Malik has arrived.
